Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory recently opened a graduate program, the Watson School of Biological Sciences, which grants Ph.D.s in biology. The Watson School has been very successful in attracting top-class students. All students are fully funded.
Students initially go through an intensive set of courses and lab rotations, intended to ready them to go directly into research upon their second year. They then choose a CSHL laboratory to join and begin their thesis research. Close mentoring and the design of the Ph.D. course are such that students may complete their doctoral studies in approximately four years.
